History
eurom was founded in Brussels in 1958, shortly after the establishment of the European Community and can look back at a rich history of industry representation at a European level. The organisation has changed significantly since it’s formation under its old name: European Federation of Precision Mechanical and Optical Industries.
Members
As an umbrella organization, eurom represents the interests of high-tech industry manufacturers, and identifies with a tradition of precision engineering skills and a strong scientific background. eurom is especially active in the area’s of medical and laboratory technology, as well as photonics.
These industries have developed rapidly over the past decade. Today they are some of the most innovative and efficient drivers of industry in Europe and serve key functions throughout the value chain. Our members are active as suppliers of high-tech components, instruments, systems and large scale installations – vital to technological progress, sustainability and the growth of other major sectors. They also supply laboratories, hospitals, doctors and consumers with devices – ranging in application from food safety to surgical procedures and providing essential technology to ensure public health.
Committment to SME’S
eurom is a key European voice for the many small and medium-sized enterprises that are active in the various sectors that have evolved from precision engineering. SMEs are the backbone of industry and an overall healthy economy. They drive growth and innovation and are often hidden champions in specialized fields.

Mission
eurom provides a plattform for national industry associations and individual manefacturers to exchange views, agree on best practices and engage with lawmakers.
As precision engineering, process automation and manufacturing processes are becoming more complex, requiring integrated instruments, regulatory oversight and critical control systems, the industry faces key challenges.
Join us in shaping europe and pursuing sustainable growth and a competetive environment for the high-tech sectors.
Structure
The diverse sectors meeting in specialized committees under the eurom umbrella have wide discretion on their specific activity and structure. Find out more about them:
